Abstract

In 8 years from January 1995 to January 2003, there was 4062 primary liver cancers diagnosed and treated in Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital-among them only 344 cases were treated by surgical liver resection. Following UICC clinical staging, 79% (272/344 cases) were in IIIA to IIIC stages. Surgical resection included 107 major liver resections (right liver extended resection, right liver resection, left liver resection),192 cases of lobe, sublobectomies and 45 tumor resections. The operation mean time ranged from 60 to 90 minutes. Surgical complications occurred in 5,2% of cases with mortarity rate was 0,6%. Survival rate was 25% at one year and 2,6% at 5 years.
