Abstract
Cerebrovascular accidents occurre rarely in the perioperative period. Unfortunately this event is very serious because it prolongs the stay in ICU, the number of days and increases mortality in hospital. Cerebrovascular accidents usually occurre several days after surgery. Incidence of perioperrative cerebrovascular accident are expected to rise in the recent years because there has been an increase in the number of surgical operation for elderly patients. Maintenance of antiagregant, oral anticoagulation, betablockers, statine and cotrol of arterial blood pressure intra and postoperation are necessary to decrease the incidence of perioperative cerebrovascular accidents. Use of newer monitoring equipments like bispectral index and transcranial Doppler may prove beneficial in early detection of intraoperative stroke. When there is high suspicion, early recognition of cerebral accident signs and symptoms (especially after cardiovascular surgery and neurosurgery...), a communication should be done to discuss strategies with neuroradiologist in cerebral revascularisation intervention as soon as possible.
