Introduction: Tumors of the central nervous system are
common, especially in children. The commonest one is astrocytoma. The
microscopic features help to diagnose and confirm more precisely the
grading of the tumor.
Subject: 122 cases of astrocytoma were diagnosed
at the Department of Pathology of Cho Ray Hospital.
Objectives:
Determine the microscopic diagnostic criteria of astrocytoma.
Result:
All of cases presented with atypical nuclear; endothelial proliferation
56.5;, necrosis 29.5%; mitoses 13.9%; microcystic 13.9%; calcification
4.9%; pseudorosettes 6.5%.
Conclusion: Atyplica nuclear, endothelial
proliferation, necrosis, mitoses and increased cellularity are the
important microscopic findings in diagnosis and arrangement grading of
astrocytoma.
