Abstract

Objective: Evaluating the initial results of anesthesia for scolosis surgery at children hospital no 2: the results achieved and the problems still exist.Design: Retrospective, descriptive and analytic studyResults: From june 2009 to july 2011 we performed general anesthesia in 40 patients having scoliosis from 3 to 15 years old in young female than male (27: 13). with 67.5% of patients were idiopathic scoliosis and 22.5% were congenital scoliosis, in which the average curvature was 68o. instrumentation posterior spinal fusion was 82.5% and anterior - posterior spinal fusion was 10%. the average duration of anesthesia was 5 hours 30 minutes. wake - up test was used to assess spinal cord function. 31 patients were used cell saver to restrict blood transfusions, only four patients needed more blood transfusions. there were 17 children needed inotropic drugs, 2 children required mechanical ventilation in the first postoperative day, 3 cases of complications: 1 patient paralyzed the left arm, 1 numbness of the lower two and 1 left pleural effusion. these cases have been recovered. Conclusion: Anesthetic management was contributing to the initial success of scoliosis surgery in children hospital no 2. To ensure more safety for patients, it's necessary to maintain a trained staff of anesthesia and surgery for scoliosis.
