u thứ phát do di căn từ ung thư vú, ung thư phổi, ung thư thận, hay ung thư tuyến
Primary chest wall tumors
are uncommon and constitute 0.2–2% of all tumors. Most common primary
malignant bone tumor of sternum is chondrosarcoma. Adequate surgical excision
remains the most important aspect of the management of chondrosarcoma.
Malignancies involving the
anterior chest wall usually arise from ribs, sternum, sternoclavicular or
chondrocostal junction and from adjacent soft tissues. Most sternal tumors are
secondary caused by metastasis from malignant tumor of the breast, lung, kidney
or thyroid. Most common primary malignant bone tumor of sternum is
chondrosarcoma. Chondrosarcoma represents 20% of all primary tumors of the
thoracic wall being 80% from the ribs and 20% of the sternum. Adequate surgical
excision remains the most important aspect of the management of chondrosarcoma.
We herein describe two cases of sternal tumor one in adult female and one in
male. We report a 47-year-old female with a myxoid sarcoma of this sternum who
was treated with an en-bloc resection and reconstruction with Titanium plate
and a mesh propylene. Another case is a 32 year-old male with an osteoblastoma
of the sternum who was treated with an en-bloc resection and reconstruction
with a mesh propylene.
In conclusion, radical
en-bloc surgical excision and immediate reconstruction is the key to success in
the management of malignant sternal tumor. Expectant survival following radical
excision justifies this aggressive approach. An en-bloc resection and
reconstruction with Titanium plate and a mesh propylene are a good choice in
case no artificial sternum bone.
