Mục tiêu: Nghiên cứu được thực hiện nhằm xác định kích thước răng theo chiều gần-xa và tỉ số kích thước răng theo Bolton ở người Việt Nam có khớp cắn bình thường; so sánh các tỉ số này theo giới tính và với giá trị của Bolton.
Phương pháp nghiên cứu: Mẫu nghiên cứu gồm mẫu hàm của 100 học sinh (50 nam, 50 nữ) từ 13 đến 18 tuổi có khớp cắn bình thường. Kích thước răng được đo trên mẫu hàm bằng thước kẹp điện tử với độ chính xác đến 0,02 mm, sau đó tính tỉ số trước và tỉ số tổng thể.
Kết quả: Kích thước răng nữ biến thiên nhiều hơn so với răng nam, với răng cửa bên hàm trên có kích thước thay đổi nhiều nhất. Không có sự khác biệt có ý nghĩa thống kê tỉ số trước và tỉ số tổng thể giữa nam và nữ. Tỉ số trước và tỉ số tổng thể chung cho nam và nữ lần lượt là 78,29 ± 2,09 (%) và 91,90 ± 1,43 (%). Tỉ số trước có sự khác biệt có ý nghĩa thống kê so với giá trị của Bolton nhưng tỉ số tổng thể không có sự khác biệt.
Kết luận: Cần thiết lập tỉ số kích thước răng chuẩn riêng biệt cho người Việt Nam để đánh giá trên lâm sàng.

Objective: The aims of this study were to determine the size of permanent teeth, Bolton discrepancy index in a Vietnamese population with normal occlusion; comparing between genders and with Bolton’s original ratio.
Method: The sample included dental casts of 100 Vietnamese subjects (50 males, 50 females) with normal occlusion, the age range was 13-18 years-old. The mesiodistal width of the teeth was measured to the nearest 0.02mm with a digital caliper; Bolton index was calculated for anterior teeth and the whole arch.
Results: The mesiodistal dental dimension showed greater variability in female than in male, with the greatest variability on lateral incisor. There were no statistically significant difference between male and female for the anterior and overall Bolton index. The combined male and female anterior and overall ratios were 78.29 ± 2.09 (%) and 91.90 ± 1.43 (%), respectively. The combined anterior ratio showed a statistically significant difference from the Bolton standard, whereas the overall ratio showed no statistically significant difference.
Conclusion: Astandard tooth size index for Vietnamese population is required.
